I knew Paul primarily through our work with BALPA, the UK pilots professional association, this extended on to the international stage where Paul used his diplomacy to achieve beneficial outcomes for all of his colleagues. At the time of his death Paul was the Executive President of BALPA and as such was responsible for chairing several committees, It is said that doing this with airline pilots is like herding cats, a skill Paul had developed and deployed to great effect.
